Directed by Alberto Rodríguez and written by Rafael Cobos, Fran Araújo, and Rodríguez, the series stars Álvaro Morte, Eduard Fernández, and Manolo Solo, and is produced by José Manuel Lorenzo in association with ARTE France.
Chosen from 375 submissions, the series is among the 51 international titles featured in this year’s official selection, representing 16 countries.
Based on Javier Cercas’ novel, the Movistar Plus+ original revisits the attempted coup of February 23, 1981, focusing on the three men who remained seated during the attack on the Spanish Congress: Adolfo Suárez, Santiago Carrillo, and Gutiérrez Mellado. Through their perspectives and those of the coup leaders, the series retraces the tensions that pushed Spain to the brink of democratic collapse.
After its world premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, the series continued through Rome, Serielizados Fest (Best Spanish Series), and FICAL (Best Series, Best Showrunner, Best Actor), earning unanimous critical acclaim. It was also presented at the Spanish Congress of Deputies on release day, has won a Forqué Award for Best Series, and received five Feroz Award nominations.
