LUCAS FIGUEROA
Lucas Figueroa is a director, writer and producer, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with dual Spanish nationality.
Lucas holds the Guinness World Records Award for the world’s most awarded short film Porque hay cosas que nunca se olvidan (2008). Throughout his career he has received more than 500 international awards.
In his early stages he worked in the area of post-production, editing and music, while combining his studies of Image and Sound Design at the UBA (University of Buenos Aires).
Lucas has filmed in more than 40 countries and directed international film projects of different budgets and he is known for his technical and conceptual innovation in the audiovisual industry.
In 1999 he wrote “Marrow”, a feature film that tells the story of a man’s discovery of a cryptocurrency (10 years before the emergence of bitcoin), based on the cypherpunk movement of the 1990s.
He shot Prologue (2012), which tells the story of what was called “The Miracle of the World” or what for many is the birth of the first “token” in 1932.
Viral (2013) his first feature film is considered a cult film. which is presented as a business case in universities and film schools for being the first European “branded content” film when this concept of financing did not exist. Despido procedente (2017), his second feature film, was available in more than 190 countries through Netflix.
Renaceres (2020), a feature film shot in 8K, is considered a document of Spain’s historical memory, shot in 8K resolution, in the middle of the pandemic.
Lucas is the founder of Mr. Monkey, a film production company that has worked for Amazon, Apple+, Netflix, Disney, Viacom, AMC, NBC Universal, Paramount, Sony, Movistar, National Geographic, History Channel, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network. Fox, MTV, Samsung, General Motors, BP, among others.
Lucas is also the Creative Director of New Frequency, a company specializing in transcendent content focused on documentaries. Osel (2022), the hit documentary series about “the Spanish lama boy” aired on HBOmax is part of New Frequency’s production catalogue.
