Jorge Coira
Fundamentally self-taught he complements his training through workshops with Michael Radford, Víctor Erice, Allan Starski, Béatrice Kaufman, Robert Lovenheim, Víctor Duplá and Mariano Barroso among others. And participating in the first edition of the Berlinale Talent Campus.
As a film director, after his beginnings in shorts in 2004 his first feature film was premiered, The year of the slacker. His following film, 18 meals-released in Spain – receiving numerous awards, selected by more than 30 International Festivals and released in theaters in more than 10 countries all over the world.
In television, he focuses in directing drama series. Some of his most outstanding work includes Land of Miranda, As leis de Celavella, Padre Casares, El comisario, Pelotas and the tv-movies like Entre bateas. More recently, Luci (one of the first Spanish series to be sold for its adaption to the US Television market), Vidago Palace and his latest collaboration in Pau Feixa’s Se quien eres.
He has created documentary films such as ¿Qué culpa tiene el tomate? (From the land to the table) that was premiered in MoMA in New York in 2009.
Jorge Coira as an editor, has a great sense of narrative rhythm, and has put his talent to work for other director’s films like Dani de la Torre’s opera prima Retribution for which he was awarded with the Goya to Best Editing or El menor de los males, directed by Antonio Hernández; and also his own films like 18 Meals, ¿Qué culpa tiene el tomate? (From the land to the table) and Entre bateas along with Guillermo Represa, multiple awards speak of his talent.
In Theatre he has recently premiered Get back, with great audience success.
