João Nuno Pinto

João Nuno Pinto is a portuguese director, born in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1969. He started his career in advertising as Art Director and Creative Director. In 1998 he went to New York where he graduated as a director at the New York Film Academy. As an advertising director he has directed several internationally awarded commercials and music videos. In 2020 he released “Mosquito” a film set during the First World War in Mozambique. The film opened the main competition at Rotterdam Film Festival and was critically acclaimed. His first feature film “America” had its international premiere at Festival do Rio, in 2010, and won awards such as Best Director at the Sofia International Film Festival and at the Portuguese Language International Film Festival and Best Cinematography at Indie Lisboa.
