DANI DE LA TORRE
Dani de la Torre (Monforte de Lemos, 1975) is a Galician director, filmmaker and screenwriter.
His successful career as a short filmmaker allowed him to direct in 2010 the miniseries “Mar Libre”, which won the support of both critics and audiences, winning awards at prestigious festivals such as Houston and Chicago and becoming the most watched Spanish film on regional TV in 2010.
His feature film debut came in 2015 with “El Desconocido”, an action thriller starring Luis Tosar, which received great critical and public support. With more than 3 million euros grossed at the box office, it won 2 Goya Awards, 11 Mestre Mateo Awards, 2 CEC Medals and was also the opening film at Venice Days at the Venice Film Festival and participated in the Official Selection of the San Sebastian Festival. For “El Desconocido”, de la Torre was nominated for a Goya for Best New Director, winner of the Ojo Crítico de Cine de RNE award, winner of the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos Medal for Best New Director and winner of the Mestre Mateo Award for Best Director.
De la Torre has also directed the acclaimed advertising campaigns ALEX AND JULIA for Estrella Damm and ZEUS AND APOLLO for Voll Damm. ALEX Y JULIA was the most watched advert in Europe on Youtube in 2018 by exceeding ten million views “La Sombra de la Ley” (2018) was his second feature film, again from Vaca Films and Atresmedia Cine. Winner of 3 Goya and 10 Mestre Mateo awards, it was the opening film of the Sitges Film Festival.
In 2020 he directed his latest feature film “Live is Life”, an original story by Albert Espinosa for A3Media Cine, which premiered in the summer of 2021. In its premiere on Netflix it was the most watched Spanish film of the month.
Together with Alberto Marini, they create, write and direct “La Unidad” for Movistar +, a fiction based on the unpublished testimonies of senior professionals in the fight against terrorism, an exciting crime thriller that reveals how they act and manage the conflicts in their lives. The first season in 2019, has been the best historical premiere of an Original content on Movistar+, as well as deserving of the MiM series 2020 awards in the categories of Best Direction and Best Drama Series. The 2nd season is also getting several nominations, and has won Best Series Direction and Best Series at the Iris Awards 2022, and Best Showrunner and Best Series at the Almeria International Film Festival.
He is currently focused on writing with Alberto Marini a new series “Marbella” for Movistar+.
